EPA PRESS BRIEFING TO ANNOUNCE FOUR NEW
COMPLIANCE ASSISTANCE CENTERS

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m., Steve Herman, EPA Assistant Administrator for Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, and Morley Winograd, from the Vice President’s National Partnership for Reinventing Government, will brief reporters on the opening of four new compliance assistance centers. The briefing will be held in the Columbus Club Room, Union Station, Washington, D.C. The new centers cover the paints and coatings industry, the transportation industry, small and medium-sized chemical manufacturers, and local government agencies. The centers will help small businesses, local governments and communities to better understand and comply with environmental regulations. Information on each center can be downloaded from the Internet and includes current compliance policies and guidelines, on-line access to state regulations, pollution prevention information, “expert help” features that guide a small business to information, and “virtual shops” that allow a user to click on any facet of an illustrated operation and see what regulations apply. The five existing centers cover metal finishing, automotive service and repair, printing, printed wiring boards and agriculture industries. All of the centers operate in partnership with industry, academic institutions, environmental groups, and other federal and state agencies.
