EPA to Hold Public Information Meeting on Eastland Woolen Mill Superfund Site in Corinna, Maine

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is hosting a public information meeting to discuss findings from the recently completed site investigation, which began in 1999. EPA has already removed extensive contamination within the Eastland Woolen Mill complex while conducting studies of four additional potential areas that contributed to contamination at the site. EPA also studied approximately four miles of the East Branch of the Sebasticook River and associated floodplain areas.

At the meeting EPA will present a summary of the three year investigation program as well as the key findings with respect to the impact of the site on the groundwater, surface water, sediment, floodplain, and fish. EPA will also update the ongoing cleanup activities, including the plan for the treatment of the 75,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil excavated as part of the early cleanup. The soil treatment should begin this summer and continue into 2003.
