The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is now accepting applications for Environmental Education grants to be awarded in summer 2000, Regional Administrator Gregg Cooke announced in Dallas today.

"Almost $200,000 in Environmental Education grants are being awarded this year in the five states comprising Region 6," Mr. Cooke said.

Many grants are awarded for $5,000 or less. Grants more than $25,000 are awarded by EPA's headquarters office.

Educational institutions, state environmental or educational agencies, tribal educational agencies, and nonprofit organizations, including public broadcasting agencies, are eligible to apply. Applications must be postmarked no later than Nov. 22, 1999. Region 6 is particularly seeking projects with direct student involvement and those dealing with children's environmental health issues.

Complete information on applying for an Environmental Education grant is available on the Internet at https://www.epa.gov/enviroed/grants.html. Applications and instructions also may be obtained by calling EPA Region 6 at (214) 665-2200 or (800) 887-6063.
