Muskogee Public Schools is one of the 18 organizations nationwide named as ENERGY STAR Leaders today by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for demonstrating superior energy management and environmental leadership.

"Muskogee is proving that superior energy management is the cornerstone of strong energy, environmental and fiscal performance," EPA Regional Administrator Richard E. Greene said.  "By managing its energy well, Muskogee is showing its leadership, improving its financial performance and helping to protect the environment."

Muskogee earned recognition for establishing energy efficiency baselines for all its buildings, a critical step in successful energy management.  It is poised to realize significant energy savings in the future.

ENERGY STAR partners who demonstrate organization-wide continuous improvement in energy efficiency qualify for EPA's new ENERGY STAR Leaders recognition.  EPA designates ENERGY STAR Leaders based on an organization's actual energy efficiency, as measured using EPA's energy performance rating system.

The rating system provides an objective, standardized approach for measuring the efficiency of an entire building, or building portfolio, on a 100 point scale.  More than 19,000 buildings across the country have used the rating system to help manage their energy use and reduce costs.

The EPA introduced ENERGY STAR in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce air pollution through increased energy efficiency.  More than 8,000 organizations have become ENERGY STAR partners and are committed to improving the energy efficiency of businesses, products and homes.
