EPA and Anchorage Developer Settle Storm Water Case

(Anchorage, Alaska – Feb. 8, 2007) – As part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ongoing effort to protect Alaska waters, EPA has reached a $8,500 settlement with Hallmark Investments, LLC (Hallmark), an Anchorage developer located in Anchorage, Alaska, for Clean Water Act violations.

During a site inspection in May, 2005, EPA inspectors discovered that Hallmark violated the Clean Water Act by operating without a required permit for two years at the Wooded Acres Condominiums site located at 59th Avenue and Dow Street in Anchorage, Alaska.

"While many builders and developers are doing a good job, there are some who are ignoring this important storm water requirement,” said Marcia Combes, EPA’s Alaska State Director. “Builders and developers need to obtain the right permits before they start work or, like Hallmark, they will face fines. EPA takes protecting Alaska waters very seriously.”

The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit program controls water pollution by regulating sources that discharge pollutants into waters of the United States.
