(Boston, Mass. – Feb. 1, 2007) – Donald Albert of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection was recently honored with the "2006 State Wastewater On-Site Technical Assistance Provider Award" by EPA.

EPA’s New England office formally acknowledged Mr. Albert at the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference Awards’ Luncheon in the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel on January 24th.

The EPA award program recognizes state personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable technical assistance and training to municipal wastewater treatment facilities. This award is one way EPA acknowledges the hard work of its state counterparts who provide training and technical assistance to municipal wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England.

Mr. Albert has provided essential on-site technical assistance and training to wastewater treatment plant operators in Maine for over 25 years. Mr. Albert has the professional respect of not only his peers, but more importantly, wastewater treatment plant superintendents and operators throughout Maine. In addition, he has contributed significantly to the Regional and National Clean Water Act Section 104(g) Wastewater Operator Technical Assistance and Training Programs for many years.

“The professionals providing technical assistance and training to wastewater treatment plants play a crucial role in ensuring that our lakes and rivers are protected from unnecessary pollution,” said Robert W. Varney, regional administrator for EPA's New England Office. "EPA is proud to acknowledge Don Albert’s contributions to keeping Maine’s rivers, lakes and streams clean.”
