PHILADELPHIA - On November 14, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host an open house to discuss the former Price Battery facility and the studies underway to examine residential soils in the surrounding area.

The open house will be held at the Hamburg Borough Building, 61 North Third St. in Hamburg, Berks County, Pa. Local residents are encouraged to drop in any time from 4 to 6 p.m.,
or 7 to 9 p.m.

Representatives from EPA, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and the Pennsylvania Department of Health will be on hand to answer questions about EPA’s residential soil testing, and the potential health risks from exposure to lead in the environment.

EPA is currently investigating the Price Battery site and testing residential soils in the area for lead contamination. Residential soil testing began in September. EPA is contacting property owners for permission prior to sampling. When the tests are completed, EPA will use the data to determine if additional work is needed.
