EPA Helps Estuary Programs Adapt to Climate Change
WASHINGTON – EPA is awarding financial and technical assistance to eight National Estuary Programs to support their efforts to plan and adapt to climate change in estuaries. This assistance, including $430,000 in financial support, is provided through EPA’s Climate Ready Estuaries program, the goal of which is to build local ability to adapt to climate change.
The assistance recipients are:
- Barnegat Bay National Estuary Program (N.J.)
- Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (Maine)
- Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program (Fla.)
- Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program (Fla.)
- Long Island Sound Study (Conn., N.Y.)
- Partnership for the Delaware Estuary (Del., Pa., N.J.)
- Tampa Bay Estuary Program (Fla.)
- Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program (Texas).
The Climate Ready Estuaries effort uses lessons learned from its partners to provide information and tools to other coastal communities around the nation. Through Climate Ready Estuaries, EPA leverages its relationship with the 28 National Estuary Programs, Web-based resources and other means to support local efforts in coastal communities to plan for and adapt to climate change.
