(Washington, D.C. – Feb. 20, 2009) The Farm, Ranch, and Rural Communities Committee (FRRCC), an independent advisory committee to EPA under the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), will meet Feb. 23-24 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C. The 30-member committee was formed in 2008 as part of EPA’s efforts to improve its relationship with the agricultural community to achieve greater progress in environmental protection.

Topics planned for discussion include impacts of EPA agriculture programs on climate change and renewable energy; identification and development of a comprehensive environmental strategy for livestock operations; and development of a constructive approach to sustainable agriculture and protection of the environment.

The FRRCC meets approximately twice yearly and consists of members representing large and small farmers, ranchers, and rural communities; rural suppliers, marketers, and processors; academics and researchers who study environmental issues impacting agriculture; environmental, conservation, and citizens’ groups; and state, local, and tribal governments.

This meeting will be open to the press and public. Additional information regarding the FRRCC and its upcoming meeting, including an agenda, can be found at the committee’s Web site.
