EPA Awards $300,000 to the City of Laredo

(Dallas, Texas – January 3, 2008) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $300,000 to the City of Laredo, Texas. This grant is awarded under the Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) program which is a community-based, community-driven program that builds partnerships to help the public understand and reduce toxic risks from numerous sources. The Laredo Health Department will use the funds to conduct outreach to school-age children and health care providers to reduce the public's exposure to hazardous chemicals and indoor air environmental and asthma triggers. The project will also seek to raise awareness about water quality and conservation and solid waste issues.
