FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Kansas City, Kan., April 27, 2007) – “Working Together for Safe & Healthy Learning Environments” is the theme of the Healthy Schools Workshop to be held Monday, April 30, at the Discovery Center in Kansas City, Mo.

Indoor environmental quality problems in schools can be expensive to fix and have a significant impact on student and staff performance and health. The Healthy Schools Workshop is designed to help school districts provide safe, healthy buildings using cost-effective strategies.

The workshop is free and will feature local and national experts discussing "green" solutions to existing issues that confront our nation’s schools. Sessions will include presentations on managing indoor environmental health, radon inspections, energy audits and conservation, lighting and electrical systems, and more.

Workshop check-in and registration will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. in the Discovery Center lobby. The center is located at 4750 Troost Ave., Kansas City, Mo. Sessions will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The workshop is sponsored by EPA Region 7, Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, Larson Binkley Engineering, NSP Architecture, Henderson Engineers, HDK Architects, and the Blue Valley, Kan. School District.
