Upcoming Environmental Events in Brownsville, Texas

     At events planned in Brownsville April 5 through 7, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Congressman Solomon Ortiz will highlight the EPA-funded Equity Mentors Program for the Children of Farm Workers, and EPA will sign an agreement with the University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB) and Texas Southmost College (TSC) to encourage joint projects and collaborative efforts in areas such as curriculum development, student and faculty research and technical assistance.  

WHAT:     Ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the new Federal Employment
           Touchscreen Kiosk donated to the university by the EPA.

           Administration and Resources Management Romulo L. Diaz Jr., and EPA Region
           6 Multi-Media Planning and Permitting Division Deputy Director Bill Luthans.

WHAT:     Projects by students participating in the Equity Mentoring Program for the
           Children of Farm Workers will be displayed. The program educates children of
           Hispanic farm workers about pesticide risks and environmental protection
           through after-school classes and Saturday activities with adult mentors.

WHAT:     CEPA Summit meeting begins. CEPA (Consorcio Educativo para la Proteccion
           Ambiental) is an international public-private consortium that includes
           universities in Chile, Mexico, the United States and Puerto Rico, as well as
           several national laboratories and the U.S. Department of Energy. CEPA fosters
           environmental information exchange.  EPA will become a member of CEPA during
           this meeting.
