U.S. AND MEXICO TO HOLD MEETINGS ON BORDER XXI PLAN

  (San Francisco)--Representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), along with the Mexican Secretariat for Environment, Natural Resources and Fisheries (SEMARNAP) and the Mexican Secretariat of Health (SALUD), will hold a binational public meeting in Nogales, Ariz., to get public input on the draft Border XXI Document, a five-year binational plan which outlines actions to improve environmental conditions along the U.S./Mexico border.  U.S. EPA will also hold two other community meetings in Arizona.

     The binational meeting will be held as follows:

Date:             Friday, July 12, 1996

Time:             8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Location:         Veterans of Foreign Wars Building (VFW)
                  653 N. Grand Ave.
                  Nogales, Ariz.

     The two domestic meetings will be held as follows:

Date:             Monday, July 22, 1996

Time:             6:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Location:         Yuma Civic and Convention Center
                  1440 Desert Hills Dr.
                  Yuma, AZ


Date:             Friday, July 25, 1996
             
Time:             6:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Location:         City of Douglas Council Chambers
                  425 10th St.
                  Douglas, AZ


     U.S. EPA strongly encourages community participation at these meetings.  Community participation is essential to the development of the Border XXI program.  During the meetings, U.S. EPA representatives will answer questions and accept comments concerning the Border XXI planning process.
