EPA recognizes businesses for taking steps to improve energy efficiency

SAN FRANCISCO -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently recognized Los Angeles-based Douglas, Emmett & Company, and San Mateo-based Glenborough Realty Trust, Inc., as two of 18 organizations named as ENERGY STAR Leaders for demonstrating superior energy management and environmental leadership.

Both companies have earned recognition for establishing their energy efficiency baselines for all their buildings -- a critical step in successful energy management. These organizations are poised to realize significant energy savings in the future.

ENERGY STAR partners who demonstrate continuous improvement in energy efficiency not just in individual buildings, but organization-wide qualify for the EPA's new ENERGY STAR Leaders recognition. The EPA designates ENERGY STAR Leaders based on an organization's actual energy efficiency, as measured using the EPA's energy performance rating system. The rating system provides an objective, standardized approach for measuring the efficiency of an entire building, or building portfolio, on a 100 point scale. Over 19,000 buildings across the country have used the rating system to help manage their energy use and reduce costs.
