Media Advisory: EPA to co-sponsor Clean Diesel Conference in Detroit and present Clean School Bus grant to Okemos

(Chicago --Mar. 20, 2006)

WHAT: As part of its Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative, EPA Region 5 will co-sponsor a 1-day conference to provide information on strategies, fuels and technologies available to help Michigan vehicle fleets reduce fuel usage, decrease air emissions and save money. Other sponsors are NextEnergy, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth.

EPA will also present a clean school bus grant to the Okemos public school system.

WHO: Cheryl Newton, deputy director of Region 5's Air and Radiation Division and G. Vinson Hellwig, chief of MDEQ's Air Quality Division and Dr. Lee Gerard, superintendent of the Okemos public school system. Representatives from other federal and state agencies, transportation associations and technology vendors will also make presentations.

WHERE: NextEnergy Center, 461 Burroughs, Detroit, Mich.

WHEN: 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 22.

A Ford 150 pickup powered by compressed natural gas, a garbage truck with a diesel oxidation catalyst and a school bus with a diesel particulate filter will also be on display.
