Administrator Whitman Rides to Support Commuter Choice Program and Announces Grant to Restore Anacostia River

(04/18/03) On Monday, April 21, EPA Administrator Christie Whitman and Washington, D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams will bike ride from the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center Building to support the “Commuter Choice Leadership Initiative,” a business-government partnership, that encourages employees to ride to work by biking, car pooling, or taking public transportation. The bike ride will end at the Anacostia Community Rowing Center where Administrator Whitman and Mayor Williams will join the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in announcing the selection of the Anacostia River as one of eight urban river restoration pilot projects under the Urban Rivers Restoration Initiative – a program to improve urban waterways.

Note: An EPA boat will be available for media to join officials on the Anacostia River to see school children doing water testing. In the event of heavy rain, only the press conference will take place.
