EPA AWARDS STATE AND TRIBAL ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE GRANT

EPA’s Office of Environmental Justice is awarding a total of $500,000 to recipients of EPA’s State and Tribal Environmental Justice (STEJ) grants. The grants will provide financial assistance to state and tribal departments to address environmental justice issues and/or support efforts to effectively comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The grants, each for $100,000, will be awarded to the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas and Vermont. Some of the project objectives include reducing or preventing disproportionately high and adverse environmental effects on low-income and/or minority communities; integrating environmental justice goals in policies, programs and activities; addressing enforcement and compliance issues in affected communities; and improving public participation in the decision-making processes. For information on how to apply for a STEJ grant, contact Danny Gogal at 202-564-2576.
