EPA Announces $4.2 Million in Grants to Clean Up Contaminated Sites in Wisconsin

(CHICAGO – May 29, 2012) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced $4.2 million in grants to redevelop contaminated properties, create jobs and protect public health in Wisconsin. These “brownfield grants” are used to assess and clean up abandoned industrial and commercial properties.

"EPA's brownfield grants will spur redevelopment in Wisconsin," said EPA Region 5 Administrator Susan Hedman. “These grants will help prepare contaminated properties for productive uses.”

The Wisconsin brownfields grants were distributed as follows:

    · Madison, Site Assessment, $400,000
    · Madison, Cleanup, 800 North Block of East Washington Avenue, South Site, $200,000
    · Madison, Cleanup, 800 North Block of East Washington Avenue, North Site, $200,000
    · Marathon County, Site Assessment, Hazardous Substances, $200,000
    · Marathon County, Site Assessment, Petroleum, $200,000
    · Neenah, Site Assessment, Petroleum, $200,000
    · Neenah, Site Assessment, Hazardous Substances $200,000
    · Milwaukee, Cleanup, Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee, Century City - Area C, $200,000
    · Milwaukee, Cleanup, Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee, Century City - Area B, $200,000
    · Milwaukee, Cleanup, Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee, Esser Paint site, $200,000

    The Wisconsin grants are part of the EPA’s $69.3 million 2012 nationwide brownfields grants to clean up and redevelop contaminated properties, boost local economies, create jobs and protect public health.
