EPA FORMS GREEN PARTNERSHIP WITH SATURN CORPORATION

EPA has entered into a partnership with the Saturn Corporation, its suppliers, and the University of Tennessee's (UT) Center for Clean Products and Clean Technologies to promote cleaner production practices and reduces pollution throughout the life cycle of Saturn vehicles. This project will focus on cost-effective methods for reducing the overall environmental affects associated with making cars, and will enable Saturn to better incorporate environmental decisions into the production of their automobiles. UT researchers will work with Saturn and its suppliers to facilitate environmental improvements across the supply chain while improving cost and quality. The Saturn Supplier Partner Council, a group of eight Saturn suppliers who serve for two years as mentors to the rest of Saturn suppliers, is playing an integral role in the partnership. EPA's Design for the Environment Program helps businesses integrate environmental issues into their daily decision-making processes. EPA’s interest in the partnership is to develop a framework that can be transferred to other industry sectors with large, diverse supply chains, such as the home appliance industry or the computer electronics industry. For more information on this partnership contact John Sparks at: 202-260-1682, or http://sparks.john@epa.gov/. More information on the Design for the Environment is found at https://www.epa.gov/dfe.
