GRANT TO PROMOTE IMPROVED LIGHTING EFFICIENCY

Dave Ryan, 202-564-7827 / ryan.dave@epa.gov

As part of the ongoing effort to support the President’s energy plan, EPA has awarded a grant of $735,000 to the Lighting Research Center (LRC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. to develop and promote the widespread acceptance of more efficient lighting products and systems.
This grant will develop new evaluation criteria for lighting technologies. Working together with the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, the organization responsible for developing recommendations for lighting in the United States, as well as key lighting industry leaders, the LRC will develop and promote the acceptance of these criteria over the next three years.

Since lighting accounts for 15 percent to 30 peercent of energy use in residential and commercial facilities, these new criteria will directly impact U.S. energy consumption, reducing air pollution and resulting in consumer and business savings.

LRC, the largest independent lighting research organization in the United States , is dedicated to advancing the effective use of lighting through research and education.
