(Kansas City, Kan., March 6, 2012) - EPA Region 7 will join state health agencies from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska, and the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST), to host the Sixth Annual Region 7 Radon Stakeholders’ Meeting on March 14 in Nebraska City, Neb.

Partnering to present the daylong event with EPA and AARST will be the Iowa Department of Public Health, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

There is no charge to attend the meeting, which is designed to bring stakeholders together to discuss and understand common radon issues from new perspectives, as well as provide insight into the future, and allow opportunities to share, educate and network. Anyone who has a stake in protecting the public from unnecessary exposure to radon in their homes, schools and businesses is welcome to attend.

WHEN: 8:30 a.m. - 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 (Note for news media organizations: interviews with radon specialists will be offered between 11:35 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.)

WHO: Representatives from EPA Region 7, Iowa Department of Public Health, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, and American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists

In 2011, EPA announced the Federal Radon Action Plan, along with General Services Administration and the departments of Agriculture; Defense; Energy; Health and Human Services; Housing and Urban Development; Interior; and Veterans Affairs. This action plan will demonstrate the importance of radon risk reduction, address finance and incentive issues to drive testing and mitigation, and build demand for services from industry professionals.
