EPA to Host Third Chemtronics Superfund Site CAG Formation Meeting

(ATLANTA – January 23, 2013) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, January 24, 2013, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Swannanoa Fire Department, 510 Bee Tree Road, Swannanoa, NC 28778 in effort to assist interested citizens in forming a Community Advisory Group (CAG) for the Chemtronics Superfund site.

At a meeting held in December of 2012, meeting attendees voted in favor of utilizing assistance from the agency during the CAG’s formation process. The formation of the CAG for the Chemtronics site, per Superfund guidance, was the focus of a second meeting which was held on January 7, 2013. The process continues with the next meeting to be held on January 24th.

The CAG will provide a setting in which community representatives can obtain up-to-date information about the status of cleanup activities, as well as discuss community views and concerns about the cleanup process with EPA, the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other parties involved in the site’s cleanup. The CAG will be a public forum in which all affected and/or interested parties in the community are offered opportunities to actively participate in the Superfund process.
