(06/19/03) EPA Administrator Christie Whitman will participate in two news conferences next week to announce actions to be taken to improve the environment throughout North America, one at the Canadian Embassy, the other at the conclusion of a conference which Whitman will host.

On Monday, June 23, Administrator Whitman and the Environmental Minister for Canada, David Anderson, will announce plans to increase bilateral cooperation to reduce cross-border air pollution. Three major pilot projects will provide greater opportunities for coordinated air quality management between both countries, with particular significance for border areas near the Pacific coast and around the Great Lakes. The announcement will take place at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, June 24-25, Administrator Whitman will host a conference addressing environmental concerns of Canada, Mexico and the United States. The conference is sponsored by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation(CEC). On June 25, at the conclusion of the conference, the ministers will hold a news conference at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.
