About 1,000 children from elementary schools across New England will fill Faneuil Hall in Boston 10 am tomorrow, Wednesday, June 6, to receive awards from the New England office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

"These young artists, working with their teachers, created artwork for EPA New England's 29th annual Paul G. Keough Earth Artist contest," said EPA's acting regional administrator Ira Leighton. "The art addresses environmental challenges we all face, and helps us to remember how we can all make a difference in creating a cleaner world. We should all honor these students and their teachers, who may well be tomorrow's environmental leaders."

Doug Gutro of EPA New England will be master of ceremonies and will give students their awards. Winners of the Earth Artist contest will get a certificate at a ceremony in their state; and participation certificates will be given to every class that enters the contest.

Teachers who wanted to take part in this program for students in grades kindergarten through six talked about environmental issues in class and then asked students to create a poem or poster with an environmental theme on a recycled paper grocery bag. The best entry from each class was sent to EPA New England to be judged by EPA staff.
