EPA Grants $725,900 to Hermitage Municipal Authority

PHILADELPHIA -- The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded a
$725,900 grant to replace two sewer lines and upgrade two sewage pump stations in Hermitage, Mercer County, Pa.

The grant to the Hermitage Municipal Authority will help pay for the replacement of two 20-year-old sewage lines along Pine Hollow Run and Golden Run that have been rupturing and causing raw sewage to flow into the waterways.

Funding will also be used to upgrade two pump stations to improve service to current customers and allow for future growth in the community.

“Old, inadequate wastewater treatment systems continue to be a major source of water pollution for many communities nationwide. EPA believes that projects like this will help eliminate potential serious health hazards,” said Donald S. Welsh, regional administrator of EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

The grant will reimburse the authority for 55 percent of the project’s construction costs, and balance will be paid with local funds.
