(ATLANTA – June 10, 2011) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will join a consortium of federal, state and local government agencies, non-profit and industry organizations to hold the Southeast Diesel Collaborative Sixth Annual Partners Meeting in Atlanta on June 13-15, 2011. The Southeast Diesel Collaborative is a public-private partnership composed of stakeholders from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

The goal of the collaborative is to improve air quality and public health by reducing emissions from existing diesel engines. The conference theme is “Clean Diesel 2.0-Sustaining Success in a New Decade” and will focus on nationally and regionally significant diesel emissions issues related to freight, public fleets and nonroad focus areas. Topics also include: building the business case for strategies and projects in challenging economic times, renewable and alternative fueling for diesel engines, and future clean diesel opportunities.

This year’s winners of the SEDC Annual Leadership award will be recognized on June 14 - to Ingram Barge Company of Nashville, Tennessee (the private industry leader) and to Miami-Dade County, Florida Government (the community leader). A workshop on “How to Build and Manage a Successful Clean Diesel Project Workshop” will be held on June 13.

On June 15, EPA will provide information on the next generation of motor vehicle fuel economy labels. For the first time, fuel economy labels will compare energy use and cost between new-technology cars that use electricity and conventional cars that are gasoline-powered, including estimates on how much consumers will save or spend on fuel over the next five years.
