EPA HAS $3.4 MILLION FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

PHILADELPHIA - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency wants to give $3.4 million in grants to help local governments better inform citizens about local environmental concerns.  The funds are part of a presidential initiative entitled Environmental Monitoring for Public Access and Community Tracking (EMPACT), which helps local governments establish environmental monitoring pilot programs.  

EMPACT is a nationwide program, designed to provide public access to clear, understandable, timely and accurate environmental monitoring data in U.S. metropolitan areas.    
Environmental monitoring consists of systematic measurements, evaluations, and communication of physical, chemical and biological information.  This information will assist the public in day-to-day decision-making concerning its health and the environment.
