(5/11/06) Nurturing our next generation of environmental stewards is the theme of this year's National Environmental Partnership Summit, Stewardship in Action: Our Responsibility – Our Environment, being held this week in Atlanta. The summit showcases students' work and affords them the opportunity to network with environmental professionals from across the country. The summit brings together over 800 individuals from government regulatory agencies, environmental assistance providers, industry and non-governmental organizations to share their environmental responsibilities and experiences with students. The summit topics include compliance assistance, pollution prevention, measuring and marketing program successes, designing sustainable programs and greening schools. Also, in honor of community-based action, EPA and the Earth Conservation Corps (ECC) http://www.earthconcorps.org will recognize their long-standing mentoring program by signing a Memorandum of Understanding detailing their partnership. This partnership is structured to enhance the importance of environmental education and ECC cleanup projects. The ECC is a nonprofit youth development and environmental service organization dedicated to improving the local environment through cleanup efforts and educating communities on actions to restore the environment. The summit is co-sponsored by EPA, the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable, and the Performance Track Participants' Association.
