TWO CALIFORNIA CITIZENS SENTENCED FOR DUMPING WASTES

On Jan. 23, Harley Weldy, the owner of Taylor Made Electroplating in Redding, Cal., and Arthur Meyers, Jr., a company
employee, were sentenced in the Eastern District of California for knowingly discharging low pH and heavy metal contaminated
wastewater from their plant into the City of Redding wastewater treatment system in violation of the Clean Water Act. Weldy
was sentenced to 36 months probation and must pay $7,500 in restitution to the City of Redding and the State of California.
Meyers was sentenced to 36 months probation and must pay $2,500 in restitution to the city and the state. This case, which
was jointly investigated by EPA's Criminal Investigation Division and State of California environmental enforcement authorities,
was the first federal prosecution developed by the Northern California Environmental Crimes Task Force.
