EPA Briefing at September Housatonic River Commission Meeting

(Boston, Mass. – September 3, 2009) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will provide an overview and slide presentation on the Housatonic River Upper Two Mile Reach Remediation and Restoration at the next meeting of the Housatonic River Commission.

The Housatonic River Commission meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the Cornwall Consolidated School, Cream Hill Road in West Cornwall, CT.

The Housatonic River and its flood plain are heavily contaminated with PCBs originating from the General Electric facility in Pittsfield, MA. The EPA presentation will detail the cleanup of contaminated sediment, bank and flood plain soil in the first two miles of the East Branch of the Housatonic River downstream from General Electric's Pittsfield facility that was performed by GE and EPA from 1999 to 2007.
