CARLISLE, Pa. -- Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University has been awarded a $5,000 grant to present a workshop for high school vocational agricultural teachers on how state and federal environmental agencies manage and monitor agricultural activities.

The workshop is planned for June 2000 at the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pa. High school vocational agricultural teachers from northeast and mid-Atlantic states are the primary target audience, but cooperative extension faculty and staff, and high school science and government teachers will also be encouraged to attend.

"These type of workshops can improve the participants’ teaching skills by increasing their understanding and awareness about how environmental laws and regulations affect the agricultural community," said W. Michael McCabe, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

EPA’s education grant program is designed to stimulate grass-roots environmental education. In the mid-Atlantic region, 25 grant recipients include schools, civic groups and non-profit organizations. Nationally, $3 million was awarded in 1999.
