No. 07-OPA046

CHICAGO (Apr. 3, 2007) - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5, Indiana Department of Environmental Management and Lake County Solid Waste Management District will host a pair of informational sessions about recent environmental investigations at Lowell, Ind.'s, Feddeler Landfill, Tuesday, April 10. The meetings will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lowell Public Library, 1505 E. Commercial Ave.

The Lowell site is a closed construction debris landfill that operated from 1971 until 2001. Public concerns about buried metal drums and air quality around the site prompted a series of investigations in 2006. EPA's excavation of four separate fill areas found no drums. An additional environmental monitoring effort is planned for this coming summer.

Representatives from all three agencies will be available at both sessions to answer questions about the investigations. For more information or to request special accommodations, contact EPA Community Involvement Coordinator Janet Pope, (800) 621-8431, Ext. 30626, or pope.janet@epa.gov.
