U.S. EPA Approves Nevada Request for Air Planning Change

     SAN FRANCISCO - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today approved state-requested regulatory changes to air quality planning areas in Nevada.

     Today's action approves the state's request to split the 546-square-mile area-61air planning region.  The state had requested that the EPA divide the area along natural geographic and land use boundaries.  After reviewing the request, the agency determined that Nevada's request meets legal and regulatory criteria for the change.

    In addition, the EPA approved the state's administrative request to update federal regulations for Nevada to better correlate the classification of PM-10 air quality planning areas with the current approach the state uses to manage its air quality.
   
     The EPA proposed the change in April and took public comments on the action.  The final rule will be published in the Federal Register within the next 10 days and takes effect 30 days after publication.
