FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Kansas City, Kan., Sept. 2, 2009) - EPA has awarded $485,000 to Lindsborg, Kan., for improvements to its existing wastewater treatment plant.

EPA Region 7 Acting Regional Administrator William Rice said, “EPA is proud to award these water infrastructure funds, which will help to protect the water quality of the Smoky Hill River and extend the useful life of the treatment plant.”

The wastewater treatment plant was originally constructed in 1984. The grant project will replace aging components, and increase efficiency of operation by installing a computerized monitoring and control system. The project will also upgrade the level of treatment with the construction of additional biological treatment processes to remove nitrogen and phosphorus, and improve the treatment of biosolids for beneficial use on agricultural land.

EPA oversees the protection of water quality and public health. The Agency is working with community leaders and the public to meet the growing needs and demands of our limited water resources. EPA remains committed to developing innovative and sustainable solutions for managing and financing infrastructure with public and private partners.
