EPA ADDS AND PROPOSES SITES TO NPL

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is adding 10 final sites and proposing to add nine sites to the National Priorities List (NPL). The primary purpose of the NPL is to guide EPA in determining which sites warrant further investigation. Currently there are a total of 1,221 final sites and 57 proposed sites. The 10 final sites include: Basin Mining Area, Basin, Mont.; Upper Tenmile Creek Mining Area, Lewis and Clark County, Mont.; Georgia-Pacific Corp. Hardwood Sawmill, Plymouth, N.C.; Iceland Coin Laundry Area Ground Water Plume, Vineland, N.J.; Lightman Drum Co., Winslow Township, N.J.; Fruit Avenue Plume, Albuquerque, N.M.; Garland Creosoting, Longview, Texas; State Road 114 Ground Water Plume, Levelland, Texas; Vienna Tetrachloroethene, Vienna, W.Va.; and one federal facility, McGuire Air Force Base #1, Wrightstown, N.J. The nine sites proposed to the NPL include: Leviathan Mine, Alpine County, Calif.; Trans Circuit Inc., Lake Park, Fla.; Marion Pressure Treating, Marion, La.; Jackson Steel, Mineola/North Hempstead, N.Y.; Lawrence Aviation Industries Inc., Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.; Scorpio Recycling Inc., Candeleria Ward, Puerto Rico; Centredale Manor Restoration Project, North Providence, R.I.; Macalloy Corp., North Charleston, S.C.; and Intermountain Waste Oil Refinery, Bountiful, Utah. The Federal Register notice updating the NPL is expected to be published on Oct. 22.
