EPA DESIGNATES 12 NEW ITEMS AS RECYCLED-CONTENT PRODUCTS FOR FEDERAL PROCUREMENT

Continuing its leadership role in developing markets for recycled products EPA designated 12 new recycled-content products to the Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines. These items are: shower and restroom dividers/partitions; consolidated and reprocessed latex paint; parking stops; channelizers; delineators; plastic fencing; garden and soaker hoses; lawn and garden edging; printer ribbons; plastic envelopes and pallets. These new products contain a variety of materials that are recovered in recycling programs nationwide. These additions to the CPG build on President Clinton’s Executive Order 12873, issued in October 1993, which requires an expedited process to increase the federal government’s use of recycled-content products. The Executive Order’s goal is to create a broader market for such products by encouraging government purchases of recycled products, which is expected to increase the demand for recycled-content products. Under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, EPA is required to designate items made with recycled material and recommend government practices for purchasing these products. The guidelines affect any federal, state or local agency using appropriated federal funds and government contractors.
