(Washington, D.C.-- 01/07/05) – EPA’s senior manager directly responsible for recycling and solid waste disposal issues will announce results from the first national pilot effort to recycle used consumer electronics. In the program, called “Plug-In to eCycling,” EPA partners with major national retailers to collect and safely recycle used equipment such as cell phones, computers and audio and visual equipment.
In Saturday’s presentation, EPA will outline the increasing opportunities for consumers to recycle used electronics. Also, EPA’s newest “Plug-In to eCycling” partner will be announced – one who will bring consumers unparalleled education on the need to recycle old electronics and provide them with existing opportunities to do so. Finally, EPA will recognize the significant contributions made by current partners to safe electronics recycling in 2004.
EPA’s Plug-In to eCycling Partners are: Apple, Best Buy, Brother, Cingular (formerly AT&T Wireless), Dell, Epson, Good Guys, HP, Intel, JVC, Lexmark, Office Depot, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Sharp, Sony, Samsung and Staples.
