Release Date: 06/22/2005
Contact Information:

(Atlanta, GA June 22, 2005) A public meeting will be held to discuss sampling results in the ARCO neighborhood on Thursday, June 23, 2005 from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM at the Richard Perry Gymnasium on 3401 Ross Road in Selden Park.  The formal presentation will begin at 7:30 PM.  Representatives from EPA, Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) will be available to provide information, answer questions and address citizen concerns.  All interested persons are encouraged to attend.

The soil investigation was conducted to determine if contamination from the nearby LCP Chemicals site had migrated into the neighborhood and to evaluate if any further response actions are necessary to protect public health and the environment.  During November 2004, the EPA provided oversight during soil sampling activities by the potentially responsible parties (PRPs) in the ARCO neighborhood.

Soil samples were analyzed for lead, mercury, arsenic, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).  No toxic chemicals were found at levels of health concern, except one sample for lead contamination.  EPA will continue to review information as it becomes available, but will now shift its focus on addressing the environmental issues on the LCP property.
