EPA ADMINISTRATOR BROWNER & MAYOR MURPHY
WILL DISCUSS MEASURES TO REVITALIZE PITTSBURGH’S NINE MILE RUN




Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Carol M. Browner will join Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy at a press conference tomorrow to discuss how Better America Bonds – a new innovative tool proposed by the Clinton Administration to help communities preserve open spaces, protect water quality and clean up Brownfields – could help Pittsburgh expand Frick Park as a part of its revitalization of the Nine Mile Run area.

Nine Mile Run is a former slag dumping ground that Pittsburgh is turning into a new residential development and new park land. Pittsburgh could use Better America Bonds to complete the redevelopment of Nine Mile Run and expand Frick Park to the Monongahela River waterfront.

Directions to Nine Mile Run: From downtown, take the Parkway East to the Squirrel Hill/Homestead exit; follow Beechwood Blvd toward Homestead; after two intersections Beechwood Blvd. will turn into Browns Hill Road; turn left at Old Browns Hill Road; make an immediate left into the parking lot for Weinberg Village; enter gates onto the access road to enter Nine Mile Run site; guides will direct you to the event site.
