FOR RELEASE: THURSDAY, MAY 13, 1999
FIFRA SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY PANEL MEETING MAY 25-27

A three-day meeting of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP) will take place May 25-27 in Arlington, Va., to provide scientific peer review of Agency FQPA science policy documents. The SAP was established under FIFRA to peer review scientific issues related to three topics: the use of the FQPA 10X safety factor, statistical methods for the use of composite data in acute dietary exposure assessment, and the use of watershed-derived percent crop areas as a refinement tool in FQPA drinking water exposure assessments for tolerance reassessment. The
10X safety factor documents discuss the types of information necessary for risk assessments in order to fully protect infants and children. Copies of the documents on the agenda for the SAP meeting appear on the EPA web site at: https://www.epa.gov/pesticides/SAP. These documents will be released in the future under the review process developed by the Tolerance Reassessment Advisory Committee for Agency FQPA science policies that were described in an October 29 Federal Register notice. The SAP meeting will be open to the public. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Crystal City Hotel, 1800 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Va.
