EPA Acting Regional Administrator Stan Meiburg and U.S. Congressman Bennie Thompson To Announce Kick-off of Wastewater Treatment System Project In Lamont, Bolivar County, MS

(Atlanta-July 6, 2010) On Wednesday, July 7, 2010, EPA Acting Regional Administrator Stan Meiburg will join Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and a host of state and local officials at a news conference in Lamont, MS to announce the start of construction of a wastewater treatment system costing approximately $1 million in Bolivar County, MS.

The project will serve as an example of a sustainable wastewater treatment approach for underserved communities in the Delta area of Mississippi, as well as other similar communities in the region. The system will be simple to operate and maintain, use less energy, thereby resulting in lower cost, and will use land treatment for zero wastewater discharge.
