EPA Official to Address Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Graduation Class at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ)

ATLANTAU.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Assistant Administrator for the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER), Mathy Stanislaus, will be the special guest speaker at the Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 in FSCJ Urban Resource Center.

A total of sixteen graduates have completed nearly 20 safety and environmental workforce certifications through agencies including, the American Red Cross, EPA and FEMA, and included coursework in accordance with OSHA code of federal regulation standards as part of their training. The skills, knowledge and credentials gained by graduates enhance their marketability and competitiveness for full-time, sustainable employment in the environmental field.

Since 2009, FSCJ is a three-time recipient of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Program Grant. The grants have allowed FSCJ to offer community job training to local, predominantly low-income minority unemployed and under-employed people living in areas affected by solid and hazardous waste. In that time, the FSCJ program has recruited and trained 288 participants with an 80 percent job placement rate. The college is consistently recognized as the “top performer” in Region 4; and noted as one of the top performers in the nation.
