WISCONSIN REGULATORY FLEXIBILITY AGREEMENT REACHED

The EPA has reached a regulatory reinvention agreement with the state of Wisconsin which is the first state to conform with the principles on regulatory innovation agreed to by the Agency and the Environmental Commissioners of the States (ECOS) in April, 1998. A draft Memorandum of Agreement will be outlined on Feb. 9 which specifies the roles and responsibilities of the EPA and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) to work with Wisconsin companies interested in pursuing environmental regulatory innovations. The draft agreement calls for the EPA to support WDNR in its encouragement of environmental innovation without jeopardizing compliance with federal regulations. The draft agreement will be outlined for statewide environmental and business leaders by Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Secretary George E. Meyer and the EPA Regional Acting Administrator David Ulrich next Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. in the north hearing room in the State Capitol building in Madison, Wis.
