EPA EXTENDS TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION
DEADLINE FOR LEAD-BASED PAINT PROFESSIONALS

EPA is extending the effective dates for certification and training of individuals and firms and the use of work practice standards for lead-based paint activities in target housing and child-occupied facilities. The Aug. 30, 1999, effective dates will now be extended to March 1, 2000. This extension applies only in those states and Indian tribes where EPA is operating the federal lead-based paint program and will allow additional time for workers to be trained and certified to conduct lead-based paint activities safely, reliably and effectively. This amendment does not change the substantive requirements of the lead-based paint activities rule published in August 1996. Copies of the amendment are available through the Federal Register at https://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/. For more information about this amendment and other aspects of the lead-based paint activities rule, contact the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD or visit EPA’s lead home page at https://www.epa.gov/lead. These same sites list states and Indian tribes that are currently part of the federal program where this rule is in effect.
