(Boston, Mass. – Sept. 14, 2006) – On Tuesday Sept. 19, EPA will host the final remaining conference call for community-based organizations to learn about EPA’s Environmental Justice funding opportunities.

The regional conference call will discuss EPA’s “EJ Small Grants” (EJSG) and “EJ Collaborative Problem-Solving” (EJCPS) programs. Potential applicants throughout New England are encouraged to call-in ask questions and receive other pre-application assistance.

The scheduled date for the conference call is Tuesday, Sept. 19th from 1:30 to 3:30. The conference format begins with 1:30 to 2:30 devoted to the EJSG program and 2:30 to 3:30 reserved for questions concerning the EJCPS program. The application deadline for both programs is Oct. 23, 2006.

EJ Small Grant program supports and empowers communities that are working on local solutions to local environmental and public health issues. Grants are awarded for a two-year period with the total award amount is $50,000. Recipients are awarded $25,000 each year and EPA expects to award at least one of these grants in the New England region.

The EJ Collaborative Problem-Solving addresses an existing local environmental and/or public health issue in an affected community. The program wants to assist recipients to develop proactive, strategic, and visionary approaches to address their environmental justice issues in the community. EJCPS projects cannot focus on education or training. The grant is for a three-year period and the recipients will be awarded $100,000. EPA plans on awarding at least one grant in the New England region.
