TWO FOOD QUALITY PROTECTION ACT
SCIENCE POLICY PAPERS PUBLISHED

On Nov. 10, the Federal Register published the availability of two science policy documents developed to improve the transparency of the decision process for pesticide registration and tolerance reassessment under the Food Quality Protection Act. The first paper, titled “Guidance for Performing Aggregate Exposure and Risk Assessments,” is available for comment through Jan. 10, 2000. The paper describes the general principles and specific procedures EPA will use in assessing aggregate non-occupational human exposure and risk from a single chemical by all relevant routes of exposure. The other paper, “Estimating the Drinking Water Component of a Dietary Exposure Assessment,” is revised from the draft which was issued for public comment on Jan. 4, 1999. It incorporates the comments received on the draft paper, as well as comments from the May 1999 FIFRA Scientific Advisory Panel that evaluated the proposed approach for incorporating a “crop area adjustment factor” and a drinking water reservoir scenario in the Agency’s surface water screening models. The papers are available at: https://www.epa.gov/pesticides/trac/science. The Federal Register notices are available at: https://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr.
