EPA’S PESTICIDE DIALOGUE COMMITTEE TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING


EPA’s Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee will hold a public meeting on June 24-25, in Alexandria,Va. Among the major issues will be tolerance reassessment as well as workgroup reports on new health standards, safer (reduced risk) pesticides, labeling, Government Performance and Results Act/measurement indicators, minor uses/Section l8's (emergency permits to use a pesticide not registered for a particular crop), right-to-know communications and ecological standards program. A review of recent Scientific Advisory Panel issues will also be discussed. The meeting will be at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, 901 N. Fairfax, Alexandria, Va. (Old Town area) from l:30 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. on June 24, and 8:30 a.m. - l2 noon on June 25. The Dialogue Committee of approximately 25 members was established in l996 under the Federal Advisory Committee Act to foster communication and understanding between the Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) and parties represented on the committee. The committee provides advice and guidance to OPP on regulatory, policy, and issues associated with evaluating and reducing risks from the use of pesticides. Membership includes representation from the pesticide industry and trade associations, pesticide user and commodity groups, federal and state governments, consumer and environmental/public interest groups, the general public and members of the congressional staff. Margie Fehrenbach of EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs is the committee’s designated Federal Officer (703-308-4775).
