Hurricanes Katrina and Rita: Louisiana -Texas - EPA Response Update

     Five National Priority List (NPL) site teams deployed to the field and conducted reconnaissance visits at eight site locations in Harris County, Texas: South Cavalcade, North Cavalcade, Brio Refining, Dixie Oil Processors, Sol Lynn, Harris Farley, Jones Road, and Patrick Bayou.  After conducting inspections of the sites, the teams reported that there was no visible damage to the sites from Hurricane Rita's heavy winds and rainfall.

     There was also no damage reported at the Jasper Creosoting, Hart Creosoting and Malone sites.  Site assessments are continuing.

     Teams collected one surface water sample from the People’s Canal near the Agriculture Street Landfill in Orleans Parish, one outfall water sample from Pump Station OP#6, located on the 17th Street Canal in Jefferson Parish and three flood water samples from locations in the lower 9th ward, the 17th St. Canal breach area, and in Buras, located in Plaquemines Parish.

     Teams collected 29 residual sediment samples from locations in Orleans and Plaquemines parishes.

     The Air Sampling Group completed reconnaissance activities in Orleans and Jefferson parishes and identified six air monitoring stations.
