FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Kansas City, Kan., Dec. 14, 2010) - EPA has awarded $144,000 to the Consolidated Public Water District #1 of Pemiscot County, Mo. The funds will be used to construct a new water supply well near Hayti, Mo. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2012.

EPA Region 7 Administrator Karl Brooks said, “It’s always a pleasure to help provide safe, reliable and affordable water to Missouri communities. These water infrastructure funds will partially fund the construction project which is estimated to cost $456,000.”

The existing water supply well has exceeded its life expectancy and is in danger of failing. The new well will replace the existing one to ensure a continued adequate supply of drinking water. The well will be approximately 1,400 feet deep and will provide water at a rate of 450 gallons per minute.

EPA oversees the protection of water quality and public health. The Agency is working with community leaders and the public to meet the growing needs and demands of our limited water resources.
