PRESIDENT BUSH ANNOUNCES INTENT TO NOMINATE
JUDITH AYRES AS HEAD OF EPA INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES

President Bush has announced his intention to nominate Judith E. Ayres to be EPA Assistant Administrator for International Activities. Ayres directed the EPA's Region 9 from 1983-88 with responsibility for all agency programs in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and the American protectorates in the Pacific. Her office also was involved with international programs addressing smelter emissions and water quality. Since leaving her post in Region 9, Ayres has served as Vice President of William D. Ruckelshaus Associates, and is presently a principal with Environmental Group in San Francisco. Ayres also served as an environmental policy advisor to both Presidents Ronald Reagan’s and George H.W. Bush’s campaigns. She earned her undergraduate degree in zoology and physiology at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, pursued graduate study in England and Japan, and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
